If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that the human species are good at one thing: fucking things up.
In “Humans: A Brief History of How We F*cked It All Up”, Tom Philips walks us through the most creative fuck ups in human history, from Chairman Mao’s Four Pests campaign to introducing a virus to kill off a rabbit catastrophe that humans created in the first place.
We get to see how humans have managed to create one disaster after another as Philips’s dark humor and sarcastic story-telling unfolds.
While it may seem dark, Philips takes us from one chuckle to another as he highlights the terrible mistakes humans have made to create certain events in our history. Every scenario is presented in a humorous and sarcastic tone, leaving the reader confused about whether to laugh or cry at some of the decisions certain humans have made.
“Humans: A Brief History of How We F*cked It All Up” is also packed with interesting historical information, events, and stories that make it a great way of feeding your general knowledge – even though it will be packed with negativity.
There is a lot of pointing fingers going around, to the point where it might seem a little excessive, but overall, the book is interesting, full of details and eye-opening facts on how mankind has affected the planet.
One of the greatest aspects of this book is the ability of Philips to move freely from one topic to another and providing a wake-up call through his statements.
This is illustrated best, when he talks about how humans have made an incredible mess of the planet and are pretending that things are fine; when, in fact, they should be running around in a panic, as if a house were on fire.
If you’re looking for a book that involves a great deal of general knowledge, shows how terrible humans can be with a good sense of humor, then this book is for you.
