Set in a medieval, gladiator-style environment, the main character, Tobias, is thrust into many obstacles.
Some of these challenges incorporate fantasy elements, which Jenna uses to add to the fantasy elements she initially presents at the start of the story.
With some of the language usage and events in The Savior’s Champion being intended for more mature audiences, Jenna’s book takes a more fitting place in the New Adult genre.
Utilizing a categorical system, Jenna sets up a unique tournament that makes both sense and is practical for the story’s plot.
The Savior’s Champion is complex, with moving events and relationships that intertwine yet remain relevant to story’s primary plot. The relationship between Tobias and Leila stands out against Tobias’s relationships with the other characters in the Tournament.
Nonetheless, Jenna develops each character that is introduced throughout the story, providing her readers with something to relate to them with…or dislike them.
Jenna’s character development is the highlight of The Savior’s Champion. The sheer number of characters involved in this story, as well as their complex personalities, are constructed excellently.
Alongside character development, the fantasy elements in The Savior’s Champion are more subtle than most stories, though that works in its favor. The mature themes, combined with humor, in The Savior’s Champion fit well and give the story modern elements.
The cover of the book is striking, well-made, and conveys the tone of the story perfectly. Additionally, the formatting of the chapter titles is unique to the story’s theme.
The Savior’s Champion is full of surprising twists and obstacles that make it even more unique in its genre. Jenna also makes good use of different social statuses and puts her own twist on them.
The fantasy elements enhance the differences between the characters, surprising her readers with each obstacle the characters face. To top it all off, Jenna adds a level of violence in the Tournament that leaves her readers on the edge of their seats throughout the entire story.
