Earth is no longer as we remember it. It has been invaded by an alien species that take over the mind of the hosts while leaving their bodies intact.
When Melanie Stryder is captured, and Wanderer the invading ‘soul’ has been given her body as a new host, she ends up putting more of a fight than Wanderer expects, filling her mind with memories of images of the brother she left behind, and the man she loves, Jared.
Forced to embark on a journey to find Jared, ‘Wanda’ stumbles across a camp of human survivors, and although they don’t trust her, they agree to give her a chance for Melanie’s sake.
The fact that Meyer tried her hand at Science Fiction is both brave and reckless because shifting genres with no experience can be incredibly risky.
Luckily, she brings the same amount of wit and humor to her new book as she did to the Twilight Series, filling it with a compelling tale of love, tragedy, and the lengths people will go to for the ones they love.
At the center of this unusual story is a two-part heroine, Melanie, the story’s original protagonist, a tough as nails woman who’s gone against the odds to protect herself, and her brother, and Wanda, an alien soul who has wandered from place without a home, and without ever questioning the rules, thinking that the aliens knew best.
Together, the two of them will begin to understand each other and find out that there is much to learn by working together. The amount of character development in this particular book is impressive, especially considering it is, thus far, a standalone series.
Adding a separate love interest for Wanda wasn’t completely necessary, but it was sweet to see her develop into her own person and recognize love for what it was.
