Community Season Two - Review

The second season of Community didn’t miss a beat. The second season of any good show is usually tough, but Community did it marvelously. Season 2 is right on par with the quality delivered in season 1.

With the characters established, the writers lean into them, putting them in outlandishly hilarious positions and constructing really cool premises. The season is littered with cameo appearances from the likes of Betty White and Drew Carey.

One of the most creative episodes, and that’s not something this show lacks in any fashion, is the ‘flashback’ episode. So, every sitcom has that one episode where it seems like the writers were either lazy or on vacation and the whole episode is just the cast having flashbacks and old highlight clips are played.

And the genius of this show is that every ‘flashback’ was a scene or story that we as viewers hadn’t seen - the flashbacks were new content with absolutely hilarious premises.

This type of creative spin is what makes this show as special as it is. Once the season begins to come to a draw, we get another two-episode installment of the paintball storyline. Epic.

They gave the premise a cool spin and laid it on us. Nostalgia, top-notch humor, and a western all rolled into 40 odd minutes of pure genius that as fans of Community you will have grown accustomed to.

I want to see some of the characters develop, just a little so that we can connect with the story a tad more, but that’s unlikely. Community is closer to being in the vein of Seinfeld than it is Friends.

It stays true to the situational comedy aspect of sitcoms over the emotional connection we may see in others. So if you’re looking to continue with the laughs, season 2 delivers. If you want some depth, it may fall slightly short. Regardless, it's still a top-notch comedy and a sure win. 9/10
