With a little drop of magic and a ton of creativity, poof, you have got the recipe for a truly wonderful and captivating story! It takes a great deal of effort to turn a book into a movie and do it well. The book series, written by J.K. Rowling was a hit when they were released from the year 1997 to 2007.
The movies were released while the books were still being written, as the first one was released in 2001 and the last one in 2011, therefore the suspense was still real.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone features the trio we had familiarized ourselves with in the books, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Ruper Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson).
The movie also includes other characters of course, such as the dreadful Aunt Marge (Pam Ferris), our beloved Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane), the brilliant Dumbledore (Richard Harris), the motherly figure Molly Weasley (Julie Walters), as well as other notable characters.
It’s safe to say that there quite a few things missing from the books, one of them being the extremely troublesome Peeves.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, similar to the book, portrays the beginning of Harry and his friends’ adventures into fighting “he who shall not be named” aka Voldemort. Even though the movie lacks some of the interesting details from the book, it still does it a great justice with the points the movie had kept.
Director Chris Columbus is able to create all the feelings the audience felt while reading the book for the first time by creating parts that were truly magical, parts that were meaningful, parts that were funny, and some that were scary; all through direction and the casts’ acting skills of course! Given how well this movie was made.
It deserves a solid 8/10, especially with the choice of music, created by composer John Williams, that will stick with fans till the end of time.
