Jessica Jones Season Two - Review

Following the first season of Jessica Jones is a near impossibility. I almost came into this show expecting disappointment because you just can’t beat that first season.

That said, it was a pretty decent season! True to the first season’s theme of “who’s the villain?” the show does have you rooting against different people at different points.

This season focuses on family and friends … and the people who powered Jessica, putting the super in her superhero. It’s very interesting to find out not only who gave her the powers, but also why they gave them to her. This, of course, will tie in with Luke Cage who got his powers the same way Jessica did.

One of the best things about season 1 was the villain, and unless you’re Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, you’re not topping David Tennant as Killgrave. BUT… who’s the real baddie this time around? Does that question confuse you? Try being Jessica this season! Subpar villain (in comparison) aside, the show has the same superb quality in its story, dialogue, music, cinematography, and every element not named Tennant that made you love the first season as much as you did.

The second season of any show is usually a bummer, but I don’t think that’s the case here. It’s a little faster paced than the first season. However, its highs aren’t as high.

We see some interesting character development for some people; taking turns you wouldn’t necessarily expect them to take. We also see some predictable progression for others. Regardless of anything else, you get thirteen episodes of Jessica being the cool badass that she is.

The show makes some slight nods to Captain America Civil War and Iron Fist, but you don’t need to have seen either to follow along with the story – just a fun thing for Marvel fans. 8/10
