The price point for the primer that ELF released is considered a steal; for only $7.99, you get 0.74 Fl Oz. This primer is considered to be an affordable dupe for Tatcha’s silk canvas primer. While many might feel that “dupes” or copying other brands is wrong, many others need these alternatives as they can’t afford the real deal. Copying isn’t necessarily bad as long as the products succeed in providing you with the finishing look you are after.
It comes in a screw-lid plastic jar without any tools or accessories for application. Allegedly the product is supposed to result in a flawless airbrush finish. It’s infused with Sakhalin to force your makeup to stick all day long and protect you against moisture loss. Sakhalin, in general, has anti-aging properties, and also controls the sebum production in your skin to minimize oils while hydrating and moisturizing the skin.
The texture is velvety, which is supposed to work effortlessly on your skin to smoothen it, hide imperfections, and create a poreless flawless effect. The package advises for the product to be applied over moisturizer and to be left for a maximum of 30 seconds before setting it. After that, you can apply the foundation.
The ELF primer has no scent whatsoever. This is a huge plus point for many people. When you are first massaging the product into your skin, it’s really obvious that it fills any pores you have. It has blurring effects which creates a smooth poreless finish as it promises.
After applying and setting your concealer and foundation, you can easily notice the difference that the primer creates. It helps in achieving an airbrush finish and helps your makeup to last longer without creasing or cracking. It feels slightly thicker, velvety, and drier than Tatcha’s primer, yet, overall, there isn’t really a big difference that you can detect after applying both products. Both work beautifully in giving you a silky poreless finish.
Considering the price point, the ELF primer deserves an 8 out of 10. It lives up to the expectations and does what it’s supposed to do.
