Rick and Morty - Season 2 - Review

In season 1, Rick and Morty introduced a new world to us, a science fiction phenomenon has been born with the first episode of Rick and Morty. Writers, Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, made sure that this season the characters will be able to relate and recall memories together.

This season, the episodes are introduced in continuity, not in major events and themes, but in terms of what the characters did or felt like in the previous episode.

Rick is the smartest man in the world but he’s self-destructive, depressed, old, and drunk all the time. Rick moved in with his daughter last season and doesn’t seem to enjoy the company of anyone in the house except for his youngest grandson Morty.

Who he takes out of school, claiming that whatever Morty does with Rick will be more important for him than school, and takes him on adventures in multiple universes, galaxies, and dimensions where Morty gets to see bizarre and new creatures.

This season also features the rest of the family and gives everyone a chance to shine throughout the season. Sally, Morty’s older sister, was always just a dumb, interesting teenager, but in this season, she takes part in their adventures and goes through complex conversations with her family.

Beth and Jerry get more exposure this season too, where they have to face and try to overcome marriage issues and, eventually, they join Rick and Morty’s craziness and take part in their adventures. The creators of the show did a great job in developing Rick and Morty’s characters too and they made sure they’re growing and evolving with the show.

The first episode of this season was as intelligent and clever as the show. Rick tries to hide the mess they made at an intergalactic party and different results of Rick and Morty’s actions happen in different universes but we get to see all of them on a split-screen.

There’s also a Get Swichfty episode where Rick and Morty have to sing a song to save the world one more time. The song was really funny even though many people did not like this episode, it’s still one of the most memorable ones this show has created.

We also see Rick dealing with his ex-girlfriend and deal with old romance with consciousness, which is pretty hilarious.  In this season Rick and Morty showcase Rick’s depression and suicidal thoughts in many of the episodes, a rather more real and human part of Rick’s character. Rick’s love for the family is spot on this season where he has to make sacrifices for a family that he appears to love and care about.

“Rick and Morty” is not like anything else on TV, it’s a smart and unique series that is so well written, you’re not going to want to miss it.
