Sherlock - Season Two - Review

Produced by the British network, BBC, Sherlock tells the tale of fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and all the adventures he goes on with his flatmate John H. Watson. Trying to solve crimes and murder mysteries, the season takes on more elevated levels and even more peculiar riddles.

This season sees three episodes, like its predecessor: “A Scandal in Belgravia”, “The Hounds of Baskerville”, and “The Reichenback Fall”.

In the books, the scandal is actually in Bohemia, the second title has not changed, and the third does not actually exist in the books, but is based on The Final Problem as well, similar to the finale of season one.

Season two sees Sherlock in quite a different light, both the character and the show itself. For the character, he is seen as more and more humane, which is a characterization we had not seen in previous episodes. Benedict Cumberbatch uses more emotions to illustrate the feelings of Sherlock Holmes and even has quite a bit of a laugh in the first episode.

We also see the extent to which he cares for Mrs. Hudson, his landlady. One relationship that also grew, is between him and his flatmate John Watson, as we see from the very beginning how dependent he is on him, as well as how much he cares about him in the scene when the “Americans” were about to shoot Watson.

The show itself has a bit more of a political stance, as it goes Sherlock and his brother Mycroft, have to deal with the government and general British forces while dealing with the cases they have at hand.

Overall, the season takes a turn from the robotic look of Sherlock, which makes him even more brilliant. Although he states several times that emotions get the better of people, it really shows how even with him being a tad more in touch with his emotions, he is still able to think clearly, concisely, and without major hitches. The storylines continue to be absorbing and engaging, this season gets a rating of 9/10.
